Is Vector Dead On The Moon

The question of whether Vector, the villain from the animated film Despicable Me, is dead on the moon is a popular, if morbid, topic among fans. While the film doesn’t explicitly show his demise, the circumstances strongly suggest a less-than-ideal outcome for him and his henchman.

Let’s examine the evidence. In the climax of the film, Gru successfully steals the moon, shrinking it down to the size of a beach ball. Vector, determined to thwart Gru and reclaim the moon, manages to grapple onto the shrinking celestial body along with his sidekicks. Gru, focused on returning the moon to its rightful place, doesn’t appear overly concerned with Vector’s predicament.

Here’s where things get tricky. Once the moon is returned to its orbit, it rapidly expands back to its original size. Vector, still clinging to the surface, would have been subjected to immense gravitational forces and potentially crushed or incinerated during this rapid expansion. Even if he somehow survived the initial expansion, the vacuum of space, coupled with the lack of resources like oxygen, water, and a controlled environment, would have proven fatal within a very short timeframe.

The film provides no indication that Gru made any attempt to rescue Vector or his henchmen. Gru’s primary concern was saving the three orphans, Agnes, Edith, and Margo, and ensuring the moon’s safe return. Saving Vector, a nemesis who had consistently attempted to steal the moon and cause him grief, was likely a low priority, if considered at all.

Furthermore, considering the tone of the Despicable Me franchise, a graphic depiction of Vector’s death wouldn’t be in line with the family-friendly nature of the films. It’s more likely the filmmakers chose to leave his fate ambiguous, relying on the audience’s common sense to infer the probable, and rather unfortunate, outcome. The fact that Vector hasn’t reappeared in subsequent movies or spin-offs further supports the theory of his demise.

While not explicitly confirmed, the evidence overwhelmingly suggests that Vector met his end on the surface of the moon. The rapid expansion of the moon, the harsh conditions of space, and Gru’s lack of intervention all point towards a grim conclusion. So, while the film doesn’t show it, it’s highly probable that Vector is, indeed, dead on the moon, a victim of his own ambition and Gru’s reluctant indifference.
